Qigong for Summer – Transforming Anger into Patience and Compassion

Summer is a powerful time for transforming energy. The element of summer is fire, which connects to the heart fire, reflecting unconditional love and acceptance. Many summer qigong practices come from spiritual traditions, focusing on internal alchemy—refining our energy to reach its highest potential.

In the Northern Hemisphere, summer marks the peak of yang energy, especially during the Solstice (June 21). This is a time to expand our ability to love and be loved. Summer energy invites us to be active, engage in outdoor activities, and play. It brings vitality, encouraging us to live life fully.

In Traditional Vietnamese Medicine, summer symbolizes the expansion of nature, the best time to express our yang aspects. However, with the rising heat and humidity, the body may be affected by summer heat or damp heat, resulting in symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, cramps, and diarrhea. Staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and practicing qigong in the morning or evening is essential for maintaining good health.

Emotionally, summer focuses on transforming impatience and hatred into love and compassion. The heart, which houses the spirit (Shen), is the center of our emotions. When the heart’s energy is balanced, negative emotions like anger can be transformed into joy and love.

The heart is also where compassion is generated. When the energy in the heart center (Middle Dantian) is strong, we feel loving, alert, and open to giving and receiving love. Compassion is a powerful frequency that helps us embrace all beings and circumstances with love and awareness. The internal alchemy practiced through the Middle Dantian refines our energy, returning it to its original frequency of unity.

Summer qigong not only balances physical health but also supports emotional and spiritual growth, allowing us to flow in harmony with nature’s rhythm.
